Let me ask you another question
When was the last time you logged on to your hosting provider and checked your domain and email hosting?
I’m doing a website tidyup for a client. yesterday she emailed me.
“Sarah – I can’t log on to my hosting and I am not getting any password reset emails”
I contacted her hosting provider, and after jumping through many hoops, discovered that the email address assigned to the account was an old, discarded and inaccessable email address. We changed it, and now my client could get access.
BUT IT GETS WORSE!!!
By sheer fluke, yesterday was the day the domain was due to expire. The renewel emails had all gone to the dead email address, and the credit card on the auto-renew had expired.
That domain was literally about to stop working, website and email all going down!
Fortunately, not only did I pick this up at the same time, I negotiated with the hosting provider for a 25% discount on the renewel fee.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!
Not only was everything about to break, it turns out that my client was paying for email hosting. Email hosting that they never used. I cancelled the renewel for them saving at least £100 a year going forward.
Make sure you can log on to your hosting provider. Do a yearly check of what you are paying for , and what you really need.
